Come close to God, and God will come close to you.

James 4:8a NLT

My daughter was having an off day last week. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what was going on. After all, she is three, and anyone who has been around a three-year-old knows they can go from happy as a clam to losing their mind in 2.5 seconds. In this particular instance, I couldn’t quite put my finger on what was causing her to be whiny and clingy. Then out of nowhere, it hit me. We had been really busy that morning trying to get some things done, which meant she hadn’t really had my undivided and uninterrupted attention. She just wanted to spend time with her mommy. So I finished my task, put down electronics, and played with her. After that, she was completely fine. I saw her mood and her whole demeanor change. She just needed to spend quality time with the person she needs and loves most.

God really showed me something in that moment. He pointed out to me that it is the same with our relationship with Him. He wants us to spend time with Him. Let that soak in for a minute. The Creator, God, wants to spend time with you! That is incredible. He loves us enough that He longs for us to spend time with Him. Not only does He want us to spend time with Him, He knows how vital it is for us. I need to spend time with Him. Just like with my daughter, if I’m not spending time in the Word, in prayer and worship, I feel off. I’m agitated easier, I stress out quicker, and I get depressed or anxious. When I have spent quiet, quality time with God, however, things are different. Anxiety lessens, patience increases, and I feel peace. My soul needs it, my faith needs it, my life needs it. I live out my life and faith a lot easier when I have spent time with my Creator. The more time I spend with Him, the better I find life is. When my time spent with God lacks, all the other areas of my life lack. But when I get into His presence, I see things clearer and walk forward in confidence because I am walking with Him. I never regret time spent in the presence of God.

Is there something lacking in your life right now? Do you find yourself just feeling off? Do you need wisdom for an upcoming decision? Are you in a season where you are struggling? Or is life going great right now? I want to encourage you today to spend time with your Heavenly Father. Spend time with a God who not only loves you, but desires to spend time with you. He wants you to seek Him so He can reveal things to you, give you what you need, and help you as you walk through this crazy thing we call life. He wants to spend time with you, His precious child. Dive into His word, put on worship music, journal, or just begin praying. You will never regret time you spend with God, but will be encouraged and filled. God wants to meet with you today.

In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.

Jeremiah 29:12-13 NLT

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT
