Title: Partnering in The Gospel
Scripture: Philippians 2:17-18
Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.
Explanation: Remember, Paul is writing this letter from prison. The 50/50 shot for someone in a Roman prison was either release or execution. Paul is living with the understanding that his situation could go either way. He is ok with it. As a matter of fact, Paul feels that even if he was executed, it would result in a blessing for the Philippian church and the advancement of Christ’s gospel. So Paul celebrates the faithfulness being produced in the church. Even though the church would be sad to lose Paul, he encourages them to rejoice in their faithfulness, which is exactly what he worked and sacrificed for.
