Title: Be a Blessing
Hebrews 13:17 (ESV)
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.
This verse is referencing specifically those who are in leadership in the church: pastors, elders, etc. God has called and appointed each one to ministry and to be the authority in the church. Even though things may not be run the way we would do it, we have to trust that God has placed those people in those positions for a reason. We can also trust that those in leadership at the church have a high calling on their lives. The leaders in the church take time to pray over their ministries and the people who are a part of their church. They are always looking to the truth in scripture to lead, guide, and direct them. Their main purpose is to bring people closer to Christ. At the end of their lives, they will have to give an account for how they take care of those God has entrusted to them. Let’s encourage and support our leaders, knowing they are following the guidance and leadership of Christ.
- Why is it a challenge to obey and submit to the leadership of those who are in the church?
- How does it change your perspective to know that those leaders are not only appointed by God, but are also looking out for your well-being?
- What are some ways you can change your behavior about how you submit to those who are in authority?
