Title: United in One Baptism
Galatians 3:25-29 (ESV)
But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave[a] nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise.
According to Jewish law, your standing with God was measured by your obedience to the law. The more you obeyed the law, the closer you were to God. But Jesus changed all of this. Once Christ made the sacrifice for all sin, He broke the barrier between us and God. It is no longer the law that determines your standing, but simply faith. We are no longer bound to the law, rather we have received grace through Jesus. And it is through faith in Christ that we then become sons and daughters of God. We become His children.
The writer continues to help us see more. Your standing with God is not dependent upon race, ethnicity, social status, political party, and so on…it is all about your faith in Jesus. When we have made the proclamation that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, we are baptized with Him, meaning that we become just like Him. We take on His nature. He died and rose again, so for us, it means getting rid of the sinful nature and taking on the new life in following Christ. Our old is gone and we are made new. We are His children, heirs to the Kingdom, and part of a united body headed in the same direction, all because of Jesus.
