Have you ever been so afraid of something that it takes over your thoughts and your feelings? The fear can basically take over your day or your life. Sometimes I feel that way about snow. I know that sounds really funny when I write it down, but when it starts to snow really bad outside, that can make me panic…especially when I know I have to drive somewhere. About 10 years ago, I hit black ice and my car went into a full spin, went across the road, and then slid into a ditch. Now when I drive over a patch of ice or I have to pull into snow, I take a deep breath, pray, and trust that God is going to take care of me. There is an unhealthy fear of the snow where I never want to drive again in it, or a healthy fear where I take it slow and drive carefully when it starts snowing.
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged.
For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9 NLT
The same can hold true with God. When we sin, make a mistake, or fail, He doesn't want us to have an unhealthy fear of Him by running and hiding. Instead, He wants us to have a healthy fear of Him, so when we mess up or fall short, He is the first person we want to run to and apologize for everything we have done. God loves us so much. He wants to be involved in our everyday lives and wants to take care of us!
But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.
Psalm 56:3 NLT
This week, look at your life and find something that you have an unhealthy fear of. Examine the situation and find where you need to ask for God’s help. God will help you through all your situations if you ask Him to take over!
