When Truth Becomes Relative

Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.  

Reading: Proverbs 14:12

Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.  
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.

Relativism tells us that truth is whatever we decide it is. It sounds freeing, but it is actually one of the most dangerous ideas a society can embrace. When everyone defines their own reality, there is no shared foundation left to stand on. Conflict becomes inevitable because no one has a common reference point.

The writer of Proverbs understood this long before modern philosophy gave it a name. A path can look completely reasonable and still lead somewhere devastating. The antidote is not arrogance or certainty about everything—it is humility before a God who sees more clearly than we do and has given us His Word as a guide.

Is there an area of your life where you have been following what feels right rather than what God’s Word says is right?

Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…  

1. Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).  
2. Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: Father, I acknowledge that my understanding is limited, but Yours is perfect. Guard me from trusting my own wisdom above Your truth. Give me a humble heart that is willing to be corrected and a willing spirit that follows wherever Your Word leads. Amen.
   
3. Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.  

Faith Steps:

1. Spend ten minutes asking God to reveal any area where your preferences have replaced His truth. 
2. When God brings something to mind, respond with one practical act of obedience today.
