Rooting Ourselves in Christ

Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.

Reading: Colossians 2

Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.

Healthy spiritual roots don’t happen by accident—they're the result of walking daily with Christ. Being "rooted" means anchoring your life in Jesus, not in feelings, circumstances, or achievements. Strong roots will keep you steady through storms and help you grow in truth and thanksgiving.

Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…
  1. Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).
  2. Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: Jesus, I want to be rooted in You. Strengthen my faith and help me to build a life that reflects Your truth and grace.
  3. Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.

Take Action:
  1. Evaluate your current spiritual rhythms. Identify one area (e.g., prayer, worship, community) where you can deepen your commitment.
  2. Share with a trusted friend one way you want to grow deeper in Christ and ask them to pray for you.

This is exactly what I needed to hear today. Colossians 2 is such an amazing chapter. I continue to feel I’m stuck in sin but I’ve already received the New Life in Christ. Loving Jesus is the only way for true life and change. Verse 23 points out that all practices people often use to “live right” is meaningless. Only Christ can do that for us.
