Praying for What Is Broken
Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.
Reading: James 5
Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.
God cares about what is broken, and Scripture repeatedly invites us to bring those needs to Him in prayer. The gift of healing demonstrates the Holy Spirit’s power to restore what is broken, and James encourages us to pray boldly for one another. At the same time, healing is not something we control or manufacture; the Holy Spirit remains the One who gives and manifests the gift. We can therefore pray with expectation without making the outcome the foundation of our faith.
What brokenness in your life or in someone you love do you need to bring honestly and boldly before God?
Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…
Faith Step:
Pray specifically for healing or restoration for one person today, and if appropriate, offer to pray with them.

Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…
- Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).
- Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: Jesus, You are our healer and our hope. Teach us to bring the broken places in our lives and the lives of others to You with confidence and compassion. Help us trust Your goodness whether healing comes immediately, gradually, or in a way we do not understand. Amen.
- Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.
Faith Step:
Pray specifically for healing or restoration for one person today, and if appropriate, offer to pray with them.
