From Isolation to Intentional Community

Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.  

Reading: Mark 14:32-34

Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.  
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.

Even Jesus, the Son of God, didn’t do life alone. In His darkest moment, He brought His closest friends into His pain, saying, “My soul is crushed with grief.” Jesus modeled layers of community: He ministered to crowds, invested deeply in twelve disciples, shared intimately with three close friends, and was brutally honest with His Father.

You need the same layers. Sunday services provide corporate worship, but transformation happens in smaller circles where authenticity thrives. Connect Groups aren’t just another church program; they’re essential to God’s design for your spiritual health. You cannot become who God created you to be in isolation. Today, commit to stepping deeper into community. Sign up for a Connect Group. Identify two or three people you can be courageously honest with. Reach out to someone who needs encouragement. Remember: God didn’t say, “I’ve got you” so you could hide. He said it so you could step into the transformative community He designed for you.

What practical step can I take this week to move from simply attending church to truly living in biblical community?

Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…  

1. Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).  
2. Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: Father, thank You for never intending for me to walk through life alone. Help me take intentional steps toward meaningful Christian community. Give me the humility to receive encouragement, the courage to be authentic, and the love to invest in others. Use my life to strengthen the faith of those around me as we follow Jesus together. Amen.
   
3. Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.  

Faith Steps:

1. Commit to joining or consistently attending a Connect Group or another small group where you can build authentic relationships. 
2. Reach out to one person this week who may be feeling isolated and invite them into conversation, fellowship, or prayer.
