Let the Word Lead

Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.  

Reading: Psalm 119:1-112

Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.  
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.

God’s Word gives us the foundation we need to recognize His voice and discern His direction. Scripture describes God’s Word as both a lamp for our feet and a light for our path—it helps us know where to step and where we are going. The more familiar we become with Scripture, the more recognizable God’s voice becomes because His Spirit will never lead us contrary to the truth He has already given us. Before we look for a specific word from God, we should first become deeply familiar with the Word of God.

How might becoming more familiar with Scripture help you recognize God’s direction in an area of your life right now?
        
Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…  

1. Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).  
2. Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: Father, give us a growing hunger for Your Word. Teach us to allow Scripture to shape our thinking, guide our decisions, and establish the boundaries for how we understand Your voice. Help us become so familiar with Your truth that we recognize what is consistent with You and what is not. Amen.
   
3. Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.
