The Work of the Holy Spirit
“As Christians, we have access to the Holy Spirit at all times. If we listen, He will show us what is wrong and what is right.”
John 15:26, 16:8-14 (ESV)
“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.
“And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of the world is judged.”
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.”
Reflection
The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of truth. He was given to us as a helper in our lives. When Jesus died on the cross, He knew that when He left, all who believed in Him would be given the Holy Spirit to help guide our lives. The Spirit will guide us into truth and declare to us things that are to come. All we have to do is listen.
There are many things that are going on in our daily lives and in the world around us. It can be hard at times to know what is true and what is right. In these times of uncertainty, one thing we can do is use His Word. The Bible was given to us as a tool to help guide our lives. As Christians, we also have access to the Holy Spirit at all times. If we listen, He will show us what is wrong and what is right. I get a feeling when something seems wrong, whether it is a situation I am in or a decision I need to make. I will also get peace if I am making the right decision. Over the years I have come to learn the difference between my own thoughts and feelings and that of what the Holy Spirit is speaking to me. It can be difficult to discern at times, but the Spirit will continue to speak to and guide you... all you have to do is listen.
Action Steps
Prayer
Lord, I thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. I thank You that You are always with me. I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide me in my life and speak to me. I pray that You would give me the wisdom to know the difference between my own thoughts and that of the Holy Spirit. Guide me down the path You have for me, and help me to make the right decisions. In Your name I pray, amen.
