Running The Race Of Perseverance

Open by taking 2-3 minutes to pray and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.

Read Hebrews 12. Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.

After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.

While not written by Paul, this passage echoes his metaphor of the Christian life as a race. The author encourages us to "throw off everything that hinders" and run with perseverance, fixing our eyes on Jesus. This aligns closely with Paul's exhortation to "forget what is behind and strain toward what is ahead." Consider what might be hindering you in your spiritual race. Are there sins that easily entangle you? Distractions that keep you from focusing on Christ?

Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…
  1. Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).
  2. Take time to confess these to God and ask for His help in laying them aside. Remember, Jesus is both the author and perfecter of our faith. He has already run the race perfectly on our behalf. As you face challenges and temptations, fix your eyes on Him, drawing strength and encouragement from His example and His presence with you.
  3. Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.

Hebrews 12:7 Sometimes I wonder why God even continues to bother with us at all but this verse reminded me God sees & treats us as his own children!

nHis discipline is good!
