Set Apart for a Purpose
“God's calling bestows a unique and cherished status upon us. Despite His ownership of the entire earth, He desires us to be His own possession.”
Exodus 19:3-6 (NASB)
And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “This is what you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the sons of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself. Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”
Reflection
In the heart of the wilderness, amidst the towering mountains and the vast expanse of the desert, God called out to Moses. This divine encounter reveals profound truths about God's calling in our lives today. God initiated the call to Moses. Similarly, in our lives, God takes the first step. He seeks us out, not because of our merit or righteousness, but because of His love and purpose for us. Just as God called Moses from the midst of the wilderness, He calls us from the midst of our worldly pursuits.
God reminded Moses of His faithfulness by recounting the liberation from Egypt. In our own lives, God often reminds us of past victories and blessings to strengthen our faith and our trust in Him. It is crucial to reflect on our personal "Egypt" experiences, where God intervened and brought us out of bondage, and to remind ourselves that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
God's calling is not without conditions. He told Moses that if the people obeyed Him fully and kept His covenant, they would be His own possession. God's calling requires our response of obedience and commitment to His ways. We, too, are called to live in obedience to God's Word and to honor His covenant. God's calling extends beyond personal salvation; it involves a communal responsibility. We are called to be a “kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (verse 6). This means that we are to serve as mediators between God and the world, representing His character and bringing others into His presence. Our lives are to be a living testimony of His holiness. God's calling bestows a unique and cherished status upon us. Despite His ownership of the entire earth, He desires us to be His own possession. This reveals the depth of God's love and the value He places on our lives.
Action Steps
Prayer
God, we seek Your guidance in the wisdom of Your Word. Your call to Moses reminds us of Your sovereignty and faithfulness and also of our divine purpose. We commit to obeying You alone, knowing it leads to Your blessings. May Your covenant be our guide. Strengthen us to align our lives with Your perfect will. Thank You for calling us and making us Your own. Despite Your vast creation, You cherish us individually and for that, we are so grateful. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
