Stronger Together
“Taken in the context of today’s scripture, the phrase “More is Better” is absolutely the way Jesus wants us to live our lives!"
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NIV)
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Reflection
Last week, Pastor Matthew talked about how culture pushes the idea that “More is Better.” Culture wants us to believe that we need more money to be happy; we need bigger houses to feel satisfied; we need more stylish clothes so we will look and feel our best. If we fall into this trap, created and sanctioned by today’s spirit-starved and morally bankrupt society, we will certainly lose our way.
But is there another way to think about this? Taken in the context of today’s scripture, the phrase “More is Better” is absolutely the way Jesus wants us to live our lives!
The more friends we have who are strong in their conviction and love for Jesus, will only serve to encourage and strengthen us.
The more relationships we have with people who will pray for us when we are struggling, will profoundly impact our lives in a positive way.
The more time we spend in fellowship with people who joyfully strive to reflect the image of Jesus, will help enforce in us a better understanding of our place and purpose in God’s kingdom.
The more love we see emanating from our brothers and sisters in Christ, the more we will want to follow their lead, and share our love for Christ with others.
So, in my book, this is the kind of “more” we need in our lives. As Pastor Matt has taught us, the “More is Better” mantra of a sinful world is not for us to embrace. But the more relationships we have with Christ followers, the stronger we will be.
Action Steps
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for putting me in a church where I receive support, encouragement and love from people who know, follow and love You. Help me to be a support to others, as they gain strength in their Christian walk. Help me to always remember that I am not designed to go it alone. Amen.

Action Steps
- Are you in a Connect Group? If not, why have you not taken this step? There is no better way to receive encouragement, support, and fellowship than by being a member of a Connect Group. Consider joining a group during the next sign-ups.
- Think about at least one Christian brother or sister who loves, supports, and encourages you. Spend time today praying for this person, thanking God for them and the influence they have had on your life.
