Set Apart for Salvation

Romans 5:6-11 (NLT)

When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

Reflection

  • Throughout history, and especially in recent years, Christianity has been painted with a lot of misconceptions. But verses 8-10 distill the whole message of Jesus Christ down to one of the clearest bottom lines ever: “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners...our friendship with God was restored by the death of His Son”! Have you accepted God’s amazing gift of restoration and salvation that He offers you through Jesus? All it takes is a simple prayer accepting Jesus as your Savior and welcoming Him into your heart forever!
  • How do you view having a relationship with God? Do you see it as a beautiful gift, or do you see it as a burden with lots of requirements to live by? Sometimes it’s easy to think of God as a stern parent observing our behavior from on high, but this isn’t the relationship God wants with us! Read through today’s passage again and write down all the phrases that show God’s love for us.
  • Was your answer above that God describes His relationship with you as a loving and wonderful friendship? Take some time this morning to re-evaluate how you view your walk with God. Invite the Holy Spirit to change and shape your perspective so that it accurately reflects the kind of relationship God desires.
