Set Apart to Be Ministers of Christ
Before you read today’s scripture, pray and ask God to speak to you today through His word. Be receptive to whatever the Holy Spirit puts on your heart and ask Him to help you stay focused and open as He works in you.
1 Peter 2:9-10 (NLT)
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
“Once you had no identity as a people;
now you are God’s people.
Once you received no mercy;
now you have received God’s mercy.”

Reflection:
- Our world is full of choices. Our choices determine how our day will progress and how we affect others we encounter. Simple things, such as a smile or a kind word, can have a profound impact on a person who is struggling. As one of God’s “chosen people,” how can you alter how you interact with others so that you can have a positive effect on their lives? Then think about how can you take it to the next level and show those around you the “goodness of God”?
- Choose one of your favorite worship songs to listen to as you reflect on today’s scripture. Take a few minutes and think about what it means to be “God’s very own possession.”
- Being God’s possession is a blessing and an honor you may not feel worthy of. It also carries with it a multitude of responsibilities that you may feel ill-prepared to handle. But don’t be discouraged or overwhelmed! Spend some time in prayer right now thanking God for His blessing on your life. In your heart, embrace the role you now have as one of God’s chosen and prayerfully seek ways you can share more of God’s goodness with those around you.
