Everything Belongs to God
Psalm 50:7-12 (NIV)
“Listen, my people, and I will speak;
I will testify against you, Israel:
I am God, your God.
I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices
or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
I have no need of a bull from your stall
or of goats from your pens,
for every animal of the forest is mine,
and the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know every bird in the mountains,
and the insects in the fields are mine.
If I were hungry I would not tell you,
for the world is mine, and all that is in it.”
Reflection
As followers of God, we’re called to be holy – set apart for His purpose. In today’s verses we find a powerful message that challenges our understanding of possessions and resources. It challenges our perspective and reminds us that everything we have belongs to God, and we’re called to use these resources in unique and responsible ways.
Our possessions - whether wealth, time, talents, or resources - are not random accumulations. They’re instruments given to us by God, designed for a unique purpose within His divine plan.
Stewardship is a concept deeply rooted in the Bible (1 Corinthians 4:2). It involves recognizing that everything we have ultimately belongs to God, and we’re accountable to Him for how we use and manage these resources.
When I sit and take stock of all that God has given me, it’s overwhelming. Not only do my husband and children belong to God but so does every possession I have. My car, my food, my animals, my home, my clothes, my time, my own body, my job, my friends, my customers, my talents, my finances – they are all His. God graciously provides these specific gifts for me, and they are mine to steward well. Some of my possessions are easy for me to steward well, but others are more challenging and require me to be more purposed and committed.
As we grapple with the weight of this responsibility, it's essential to understand that God doesn't need anything from us. He is self-sufficient and rich in every way.
So why does He ask us to steward these resources?
It's not because He lacks, but because He loves. He invites us to participate in His divine plan, to partner with Him as He unfolds His purpose on Earth. That He would entrust us with His treasures is a profound expression of His love for us and His trust in us.
Today, let yourself be filled with a sense of awe and responsibility recognizing that everything we have belongs to God. It's a humbling reminder that we’re entrusted with these precious resources for a purpose greater than our own desires or convenience. He calls us to live with intention, to use each blessing wisely, and to share generously with others, knowing that our stewardship reflects our gratitude and love for Him.
Action Steps
Prayer
Lord, our hearts are full of gratitude for the many blessings You have given us. We recognize that everything we have ultimately belongs to You, and we’re called to be faithful stewards of these gifts. Help us see our possessions as instruments for Your divine plan. Give us the wisdom to manage them with intention and responsibility, always seeking Your guidance in our decisions. Empower us to prioritize our resources in ways that align with Your will. May our stewardship reflect Your love, compassion, and grace to a world in need.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
