Preparing a Place
John 14:1-3 (NLT)
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”
Reflection
To me, the most encouraging thing about my faith journey is that I’m promised eternity with the Creator. No matter the struggles I face (and there are many), I can live my life confident of the eternal life I will one day experience.
Living life with this perspective is such an encouragement! The things I struggle with won’t last forever. The fears I have won’t grip me forever. The desires I have won’t go unfulfilled forever. The pains of this life aren’t forever. I will one day get to live in a beautiful place without pain, fear, or sin - for eternity!
But this promise also offers a challenge: If everything in this life ceased to exist today, would we find we’ve been giving our energy toward the things that will last?
Are we discipling our children so they, too, will experience a beautiful eternity? Are we using our resources to invest in the church, both locally and globally? Are we sharing the gospel with our unsaved coworkers and friends?
If Jesus is preparing a place for each one of us to spend eternity with Him; let’s do our part in making sure all the people we know are there, too.
Action Steps
Think through the challenge question:
If everything in this life ceased to exist today, would you find you’ve been giving your energy toward the things that will last?
Prayer
God, we thank You for the promise of eternity. We cannot wait to one day spend forever in Your presence. Until then, help us to do all we can to disciple the people in our lives - our children, our coworkers, our friends, our family members. We ask that You walk with us in this process. We love You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
