Finishing Well…Not The Year But Life
Sundays are the day we typically gather to worship. We anticipate what God wants to do in us this week and how He wants to speak to us during this weekly gathering. Sundays at Tree Church Daily are a day to prepare for God to move. We ask the Spirit to lead us and show us what He is doing in us. This involves praying and asking Him to allow us to be aware of His activity in our lives.
If you are newer to prayer and still trying to understand how God speaks to us, pray along with the prayer below, expecting that God will meet you where you are.
Let’s pray…
Gracious God,
Living life with You sometimes feels like a competition between the things I want, and loving and being faithful to You. It makes everything feel like a fight to hold on to You. And while I know that You will challenge and change my desires, I also want to trust that living life in relationship with You is what gives context to the rest of my life. You set the tone of my everything, and Your presence makes life what it was always meant to be. So, help me to trust You in my everyday life. Where You bless me, help me to live gratefully and joyfully. Where you challenge me, let me meet that challenge with trust and joy. I want to live my entire life with You. But I need the help of Your Spirit to do that. So speak, guide, and strengthen me for each day with You!
When Paul writes to the various churches across the Mediterranean, he usually includes a call, a wish, and a prayer about them continuing in their faith until they see it come to its fullness at the day of Christ. There is an anticipation of one day fully and finally being made completely like Jesus. Paul expresses that this is the purpose of his role as an apostle and the goal of every believer. The not-so-fine print of each of these letters, though, is that getting there is not without pitfalls and challenges. It feels like the universe is working against us being faithful to God; circumstances and even our own desires seem set to derail us from this calling. But God promises that through every difficulty, trial, and failure, the calling remains true…stay faithful to Jesus. The good news is that we don’t do it alone. The same God who calls us is the One who promises to strengthen us and show us the way, so that we will be made complete in Him.
As you spend time today thinking about this idea, take 4-5 minutes to mentally answer these questions.
Have you experienced the difficulty of staying faithful to God? How so?
What do you think it will take to stay faithful to God through your whole life?
Close your time today talking with God about your thoughts. You can simply start by talking to Him, or you can use the following prompts to help you get started. Feel free to take as much time as you need.
God, I am not sure I have what it takes to be faithful to you…
God, help me to want what You want…
Stay in this posture of talking and listening to God. As you go to your time of worship and teaching at church today, ask God to speak to you today!
