Looking Back
We are purposed to set aside Sundays at Tree Church Daily as a day to prepare for gathering together to worship God. We need the Spirit to lead us and show us what He is currently doing and wants to do in us. This involves praying and asking Him to help us be aware of His activity in our lives.
If you are new to prayer and still trying to understand how God speaks to us, pray along with the prayer below, anticipating that God will meet you where you are.
Let’s pray…
Father, please lead me today. As I take time to seek after You, will You please meet me and help me know what you are doing in my heart and mind right now? Please reveal to me where I am blind to my motives and show me what I place as my greatest value. Help me to see what You want to encourage and what You want to change! I want to walk with You, know You, and be like You, but I can’t do it without Your presence and Your help. So please speak to me now. Amen.
Throughout the series Verdict we are exploring how to consistently make good decisions. This week we will be exploring the idea of “looking back.” This could include looking back at our past success and mistakes and learning from them. But the focus of this week will center on the idea of fostering remembrance of what God has done in our lives and the history of His people to prove Himself faithful. In reflecting on and celebrating all God has done, we inform our minds and hearts of how He can be trusted with the circumstances we face today. Practicing a life of purposed thankfulness fosters greater trust, and greater trust in God makes for better decisions in our lives.
As you start to think about this idea, take four or five minutes to answer the following questions mentally, or feel free to write them down in a journal or in your phone.
Are there any past mistakes or successes that you know influence how you make decisions right now?
Have you had any experiences with God that prove He will be faithful today?
Close your time today talking with God about your thoughts here. You can simply start by talking to Him, or you can use the following prompts to help you get started. Feel free to take as much time as you need.
God, will You show me the way You are working in my life…
God, I am not sure how to think about the decision I am facing right now…
God, thank You for…
Stay in this posture of talking and listening to God. As you go to your time of worship and teaching at church today, ask God to speak to you today!
