God Is With Us
Joshua 1:9 (ESV)
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Reflection
Sunday messages often describe the two paths we are presented in life: the path that leads to destruction, and the path that leads to salvation. It is further stressed that the path to salvation is narrow and difficult. Every choice we are presented with, and every decision we make, leads us further down the corresponding path. What if I make the wrong choice? What if what looks like the “right” choice actually leads me down the path of destruction? What about all of the decisions I made before I was saved? How far down the path of destruction am I, and how can I make it back to the narrow path? What if I can’t do it? What if I’m not strong enough?
These are just some of the thoughts that swirl around my mind. I am already a person who overthinks and has significant anxiety about big decisions, but add in that it can be literal spiritual life or death? It’s so overwhelming!
Thankfully, we don’t have to face these decisions alone, shuddering with anxiety. We can take solace in God’s promise to always be with us. When faced with any decision, even ones that seem easy, sit with your options. Ask God for guidance on what He wants for your life. When you seek Him, He WILL guide you. He will offer the strength and courage you need to make the decisions and complete the tasks to which you are called. Experience the relief and operate with the confidence to approach decisions and tasks when you seek Him first. Take that step of faith, for He promises to always be with you.
Action Steps
1. Spend time in prayer. Seek God’s guidance for what He is commanding of you today.
2. Reflect on the challenges you’ve experienced in the past. How did God guide you through those challenges? Praise Him for the guidance He provided then, and ask Him to continue to provide His loving guidance to you now.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for offering Your calming presence, Your guidance, and Your peace during challenging times. I pray that I continue to look to You and honor You in all the decisions I make. I pray that I find courage and strength in You to live out the callings You have placed on my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
