The Calling of God
We are purposed to set aside Sundays at the Tree Church Daily as a day to prepare for gathering together to worship God. We need the Spirit to lead us and show us what He is doing currently and wants to do in us. This involves praying and asking Him to allow us to be aware of His activity in our lives.
If you are new to prayer and still trying to understand how God speaks to us, pray along with the prayer below, anticipating that God will meet you where you are.
Let’s pray…
Spirit,
Will You please open my heart to all you are doing in my life? Help me to be aware and attentive to the fact that You are present with me right now and You want to speak to me. Help me to better understand what You have for my day and give me the courage to walk in it. Amen.
This week kicks off a six-week dive into the story of Nehemiah, and how God used him to bring Israel back from exile. We start with the idea that God stirs the heart of Nehemiah and burdens him with a desire to see Jerusalem restored. Though Nehemiah is not in a position of authority, nor is he physically in Jerusalem, God calls him to lead the way of this restoration. Through much prayer and a step of faith, God confirms and opens the door for him to begin to work out this calling when Cyrus sends him to Jerusalem. This week we will explore these themes as we consider what God may be calling us to do.
As you start to think about these ideas, take 4-5 minutes to answer these questions in your mind, or feel free to write them in a journal somewhere:
Is there something that God has begun to burden your heart with?
How does it coincide with the burden God has for the world as expressed in His word?
Close your time today talking with God about your thoughts here. You can simply start by talking to Him, or you can use the following prompts to help you get started. Feel free to take as much time as you need.
God, is there something You might be calling me to…
Spirit, will You stir my heart for…
God, I don’t know what to do with this desire I have for…
Stay in this posture of talking and listening to God. As you go to your time of worship and teaching at church, ask God to speak to you today!
