Bad Timing is Perfect Timing
Sundays at Tree Church Daily are a day to prepare our hearts for what God wants to do through corporate worship. We need the Spirit to lead us and show us what He is currently doing and wants to do in us. This involves praying and asking Him to help us be aware of His activity in our lives.
If you are new to prayer and still trying to understand how God speaks to us, pray the prayer below, anticipating that God will meet you where you are.
Let’s pray…
Spirit,
Will You open my heart and my mind to the work You want to do in my heart today? I have a plan for my life, and sometimes Your plans for me stand in the way of that. Remind me today of Your love for me, the good You have in store for me, and remind me that Your way always leads to life, even if it isn’t what I want or expect right now. Amen.
The timing of God is often inconvenient and makes little sense to us in the moment. God will ask us to forgive when the pain of forgiveness still lingers. He will ask us to stop and help someone or pray for them when we are in the biggest hurry. He will ask us to embody generosity when our finances are the tightest. This challenges us because we have our own plans and expectations for our lives. But God doesn’t work according to our timeline, and when we are willing to trust, obey, and go where He leads, our lives will exceed our expectations. God will begin to shift our perspective to see that His plans are best and lead to life.
As you start to think about this idea, take 4-5 minutes to answer these questions in your mind, or feel free to write them in a journal somewhere:
Do you have a tough time having your plans interrupted?
If so, spend some time thinking about why this frustrates you?
Close your time today talking with God about your thoughts. You can start by simply talking to Him, or you can use the following prompts to help you get started. Feel free to take as much time as you need.
God, I like doing things my way and I need You to help me see what You are doing…
God, I don’t understand why You are doing (fill in the blank) this way…
Stay in this posture of talking and listening to God. As you go to your time of worship and teaching at church today, ask God to speak to you today!
