Dead to Sin

Yesterday we focused on the worth of a soul, and today we are looking at what it means to be dead to sin. Please pray as you read or listen, and ask God to provide guidance on how to walk with Christ and not to be influenced by sin.

Precious Father in heaven, I praise You that I can come to You for guidance, strength, and understanding at any time. I am eager to live a life that is centered on following Your desires for me. Father, I pray for less of me—less of my will, mind, and emotions trying to take over, to allow Jesus Christ to work in me. Amen.

Romans 6:5-13 (NLT)
5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. 6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. 8 And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. 9 We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. 10 When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. 11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.
12 Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. 13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.

God sent Jesus to earth not only to save us, but to end the power that sin has in our lives. We have been given a way not to be a slave to sin. Do you believe it is possible to live a life free from sin?

Our old nature was done away with by Christ’s death on the cross. When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He immediately came into our being and gave us His Spirit. We still have our mind, will, emotions that can rule our lives if we allow, but we also have the Holy Spirit of the living God living inside us, ready to teach us how we can be free from the power of sin. If we sin, unknowingly or knowingly, the Holy Spirit convicts us. Sin no longer has control or dominion over us. What does freedom from the power of sin mean to you?

We are now free to live a life devoted to God: to conform to His will, follow His precepts, and follow Jesus’ example to us. We have oneness with Christ. Are you experiencing freedom from sin, to live a life devoted to God?

After taking time to reflect, go to God in prayer. Take your time; allow the Holy Spirit to communicate to you. Here is a prompt to help get you started.

Thank the Holy Spirit for the work He has done in your life.
Thank Him for the strength and direction He provides daily, and to make you aware of any unconfessed sin.

May you experience the power of God in your life.
