New Life
We are continuing in our series, Following Jesus, and this week, we focus on righteousness, or right standing with God. Specifically, we will look at how Jesus’ righteousness continues to impact our everyday lives. Let’s begin with a prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unwavering love. Thank You for redeeming us despite our sin, and for Your boundless grace when we falter. Amen.
Titus 3:3-5 (NLT)
3 Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. 4 But when God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, 5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.
When was the last time you felt “foolish and disobedient”? How about a slave to lust and pleasures? I experience this daily because I am constantly surrounded by sin and temptations. Frequently, I feel ashamed, as if I’ve disgraced God by not living a sinless existence, and I begin to retreat inside myself and distance myself from the Holy Spirit as a result. I’m confident that you have experienced this, also, and felt the same at times. We have done, and will continue to do, nothing that deserves God’s mercy. We are not righteous in our own right, but through our faith in Jesus, God washed away our sins forever and now we stand before Him righteous! We can all REJOICE that God has saved us and offers us a new life!
God is full of mercy and grace, and He has generously offered His Holy Spirit to us. Rather than continuing on the unrighteous path, or turning away in shame, we can look toward Him and bask in the Holy Spirit’s grace, guidance, and mercy, finding a way to thrive in the new life we’re offered. Think about the new life God offers. What does this look like for you? What are the steps you need to take to live the best new life God has for you? Take a few moments to spend time in prayer with God to discuss. Feel free to use the following prompt to help guide you.
God, I want to lead the life You’ve designed for me. Help me to...
I pray that you are constantly reminded of God’s grace and that you lean into the Holy Spirit to help you fully experience the best life God offers us!
