Righteousness – Right Living
We are purposed to set aside Sunday at the Tree Church Daily as a special time to engage our hearts and minds in worship, prayer, and fellowship. It is a day to devote to God and for seeking His will for our lives. This involves praying and asking the Holy Spirit to speak His truth to us.
As you start your day, consider how much God must love you. Thank God for all He has done for you, and ask Him to help you see what is truly important to Him as you seek to live a righteous life. If you are new to prayer and need some help getting started, then join with me in this opening prayer. Let’s pray…
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me and seeing me as a soul worth saving. I love You and I want to share Your love with others. I want to be in right standing with You, not just because it pleases You, but because I want others to see and understand they too can be blessed with abundant life through knowing You. Amen.
We are continuing in the series, Following Jesus. This week, we will concentrate on two very important commands:
Love God first.
Love others the way God loves us.
When we first become disciples, we may find our motivation to love others is born from our desire to please God. As we mature in our walk with God, our motivation changes from simply trying to please God, to loving others because we are truly connected to Jesus. What (or who) is our source of righteousness? Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). If we stay connected to Jesus, and what His life and death stands for, we will be compelled to follow God’s command to love others.
As we prepare this week to learn more, take a few moments to consider the following questions. Write your thoughts in a journal, record them on a voice recorder, or just spend some quiet time reflecting on what comes to mind.
Do you find loving others difficult?
Do you feel connected to Jesus as your source of righteousness? Do your feelings and actions toward others reflect God’s love for you?
Reach out to God and ask Him how you can make some changes in your life to better serve Him. Start your prayer by simply sharing your thoughts and feelings with God, or use the following prompts to help you get started. Don’t rush this process; take as much time as you need.
God, I need Your help. Please give me a heart full of the kind of love You give to me every day…
Holy Spirit, please help me live in such a way that others see Your love through me…
At church and throughout your day, continue to reach out to God and seek His will for your life. As we come together today for a time of worship, prayer, and teaching, let the presence of God encourage you.
