Peace with Us Toward God
We are purposed to set aside Sundays at the Tree Church Daily as a special time to engage our hearts and minds in worship, prayer, and fellowship. It is a day to devote to God, and for seeking His will for our lives. This involves praying and asking the Holy Spirit to speak His truth to us. As you start your day, let’s pray…
Heavenly Father, sometimes I don’t understand Your ways. I feel confused by some of the things happening to me. But Lord, I know in my heart You have a purpose beyond my understanding for the things that happen to me, the pain I sometimes feel, and the frustrations I sometimes endure. Lord, help me to put my trust in You and know that You are working for my good. Amen.
We are continuing in the series, Following Jesus. This week, we will explore how God’s ways are frequently mysterious and confusing to us. God doesn’t always do what we think is best or give us our heart’s desires. In fact, God frequently does things that don’t make sense to us, sometimes causing us pain and frustration. How do we reconcile this?
As long as we trust that God knows what He is doing, and we can accept that His ways are sometimes outside the realm of our comprehension, then we can be at peace knowing the pain we go through and the issues we face in life have a purpose. Our job is to put our faith in the One who loves us.
As we prepare this week to learn more, take a few moments to consider the following questions. Write your thoughts in a journal, record them on a voice recorder, or just spend some quiet time reflecting on what comes to mind.
When you pray, do you ever ask God for things that would make you happy or feel satisfied? Are you disappointed in God when He doesn’t come through for you?
When something bad or something you don’t understand happens to you, do you feel frustrated and in conflict with God?
Today, go to God in prayer and share your thoughts and feelings with Him. Listen to what He has for you. If needed, use the following prompts to help you get started. Don’t rush your time with God; take as much time as you need.
God, so often I don’t understand why certain things happen to me or my family. Help me to accept that You know what You are doing…
Holy Spirit, thank You for showing me that You are in control of this situation, and help me to trust Your purpose for it…
At church, and throughout your day, continue to reach out to God and seek His comfort and peace. As we come together today for a time of worship, prayer, and teaching, let the presence of God encourage you.
