Listening to the Spirit's Voice
Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.
Reading: John 16:12-15
Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.
God doesn't leave us guessing about His will—He speaks through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit guides us into truth, nudges us toward obedience, and checks us when we're heading the wrong direction. But hearing requires listening, and listening requires stillness. Many Christians miss God's direction because they're too busy talking, planning, and moving to hear His voice. The Spirit speaks through Scripture, through godly counsel, through circumstances, and through that inner witness that confirms truth. Today, create space for silence. Ask God to speak, then wait expectantly. When He nudges you toward an uncomfortable obedience or checks you from a questionable decision, will you respond? Submission begins with listening and ends with obedience.
When was the last time you clearly sensed the Holy Spirit's leading? Did you obey?
Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…

When was the last time you clearly sensed the Holy Spirit's leading? Did you obey?
Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…
- Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).
- Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: “Holy Spirit, quiet the noise in my heart and mind so I can hear You clearly. Teach me to recognize Your voice and give me courage to obey whatever You ask of me.”
- Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.
Faith Steps:
- Spend at least 5–10 minutes in silence today, asking God to speak and simply listening without distractions.
- When you sense a prompting from the Spirit—whether to encourage someone, change a decision, or step out in faith—act on it immediately rather than delaying.
