Humility Before Prayer
There is power in prayer—transformative power. Today's scripture reveals to us that incredible things happen when we approach God with an open and vulnerable heart. Let's use this day to trust in His promises, embrace the change He wants in our hearts, and connect with God more profoundly than ever.
I want to start us off today with a simple prayer, and I encourage you to make it your prayer as we go through today's devotion.
Lord, I come to You with a humble heart and a desire to be close to You. I know that I need Your grace and mercy in my life. Lovingly show me the changes I need to make and where I fall short. Help me to surrender all things to You, and to always seek You. Change me, heal me, guide me…and always bring me back to Your ways. I am forever grateful. In Jesus’ name, amen.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT)
14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
Before we can ever fully grasp the power of prayer, it’s essential to understand what a humble heart looks like. Humility is the posture of our soul. A humble heart comes to God honestly and openly, recognizing our need for His grace and guidance. It's about acknowledging our imperfections and sins, turning away from them, and embracing a willingness to receive and depend on God.
Whew! Let me be humble. It’s hard to admit when I am wrong and need help. I have moments when I try to do everything myself, refusing help and never asking for it. I also fail to acknowledge the times when I fall short and sin, full of pride and arrogance. Why do I struggle alone, thinking I don't need anyone?
Are you clinging to control, resisting surrender? What obstacles make it hard for you to surrender fully to God and admit you need help? Take a few moments to reflect on how this attitude prevents you from fully experiencing God’s support and direction.
Prayer is the most powerful action we can engage in as followers of Jesus. Without prayer, we are unable to truly understand what Jesus wants for us. Through prayer, we align ourselves with God's will, receive His loving nudges, and find the strength and courage to follow His path.
We often approach prayer with a list of demands, while conveniently ignoring our ungodly ways. Today, go to God with humility, broken and vulnerable. Approach Him with a genuine desire to hear from Him and understand His will, and He will align your life with His purposes. Please use the following prayer prompts if you need help getting started.
Ask God to reveal the posture of your heart.
Ask God to help you humble your heart, so you can experience the transformative power of prayer in your walk with Him.
May God encourage you as you surrender to Him and humbly seek His guidance. Let His presence transform you.
