The Place and Pace of Prayer

Today, let’s get our hearts ready for what God wants to do during our time in worship together. We need the Holy Spirit to guide us and show us what He’s doing right now and what He wants to do in us. This means praying and asking Him to make us aware of His activity in our lives.

If you’re new to prayer and still figuring out how God speaks to us, pray the prayer below, expecting that God will meet you where you are.

Let’s pray…

Holy Spirit,
Will You meet me here in this moment and increase my awareness of Your presence? It’s so easy to get caught up in the busyness of my day. But will You turn my attention to You? Increase my desire and discipline to spend time with You every day. Amen.

God’s presence is everywhere, and we’ve been told to pray without stopping (1 Thess. 5:17), but this doesn’t mean we don’t need to set aside time for God every single day. Just like our human relationships need specific, focused time together, so does our relationship with God. This sets the foundation for a relationship with God that carries us through our day.
As you start thinking about this, take 4-5 minutes to answer these questions in your mind or write them in a journal:

What is the biggest obstacle to setting aside specific time to spend with God?

What will it take to overcome these obstacles?

Close your time today by talking with God about your thoughts. Take time to pray through the prompt. Feel free to take as much time as you need.

God, show me the things I need to change to create space in my life for You.

Stay in this mindset of talking and listening to God. As you go to your time of worship and teaching at church today, ask God to speak to you!
