Calling of the Disciples: The True Cost
We are purposed to set aside Sundays at the Tree Church Daily as a special time to engage our hearts and minds in worship, prayer, and fellowship. It is a day to devote to God, and for seeking His will for our lives. This involves praying and asking the Holy Spirit to speak His truth to us. As you start your day, let’s pray…
Heavenly Father, Thank You for waking me up to another beautiful day. Help me to become the person You want me to be, and to always remember the grace and love You give me every day. Let me give to others that same love and grace as I try to live a life for Your glory and edification. In Jesus’ name, amen.
This week we turn our attentions to what it means to be called to a life of discipleship. What is the true cost to become a disciple of Jesus? As we’ll learn this week, following Jesus is not always easy. It may mean setting aside our old ways, facing social and cultural challenges, and prioritizing our relationship with God over other things in our lives. We may find our choice to follow Jesus costs us popularity, friendships, or how we use and enjoy our leisure time. But the investment we make now to love and follow Jesus is nothing compared to the incredible and eternal reward that comes later.
As we prepare this week to learn more, take a few moments to consider the following questions. Write your thoughts in a journal, record them on a voice recorder, or just spend some quiet time reflecting on what comes to mind.
Do you feel like God is calling you to change or give up something as you develop a closer walk with Him?
Even though it may be hard at times to be a disciple, can you see the value in the investment you are making for your future?
Today, as you pray, thank God for all that Jesus has done for us, and continues to do as we strive for a closer relationship with Him. Don’t rush your time with God; take as much time as you need.
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son to save us and enrich our lives. Show me what it means to be a disciple…
Holy Spirit, be with me today as I try to live a life of faith and obedience…
At church, and throughout your day, think about all that Jesus sacrificed for us, and continue to pray for ways to develop a closer walk with Him.
