Don’t Grieve the Holy Spirit
“Remember that God Himself lives in you through the Holy Spirit. Make Him proud of the life you are living!”
Ephesians 4:30-32 (ESV)
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Reflection
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reads, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
Do you fully understand who the Holy Spirit is? It is very important to understand this truth. God is one God in three persons. There is God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. God dwells in the hearts of His true followers through the Holy Spirit. There is no other way for God to be with us. We are His temple.
This truth should make us all pause and truly examine how we are living our lives. The Holy Spirit is God Himself residing in you! God is living in you as a born-again believer! So the way we live our lives should reflect tenderness and forgiveness, not wrath and anger. We can grieve Him when we are not being kind and tenderhearted towards others. We can also cause Him to be troubled by our unforgiveness. Because of all of our shortcomings, our witness to the world can be damaged if we don’t seek His help in all things.
Remember that God Himself lives in you through the Holy Spirit. Make Him proud of the life you are living! We can cause Him grief by the way we live our lives or in the way we don’t. Make it your goal each day to live knowing you were bought with a price!
Action Steps
1. Take some to be still and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you anything in your life that you are doing that is causing Him to be saddened.
2. At the same time you are being quiet before the Lord, ask Him to reveal anything in your life that you are NOT doing that is causing Him to be saddened.

Prayer
Father God, You have made me Your temple. Your Holy Spirit lives in me! Thank You for trusting me to be Your ambassador to the world. I want to make You proud of the way I live my life. I do not want to cause You any grief. Help me remember that I am showing the world who You are through my actions and inactions. Thank You for Your forgiveness when I mess up. I need Your help to guide me through each day. I need Your strength to admit when I have done wrong. Let my temple shine brightly for You. Thank You, Jesus! Amen
