Have Mercy on Me
The basic premise of our current series World Changers is that many of us struggle at times with feeling qualified for the call that God places on our lives, and that’s if we even believe God would call us! We feel unqualified to witness about God because we don’t have all the Bible answers, or we don’t live a perfect life. When God calls us to do specific things, we often see all the ways this seems impossible.
The truth is that this has been a tension throughout the entire Bible. Almost every person was uniquely unqualified for what God called them to do. Being qualified was never a prerequisite for being used by God. There’s only one thing that mattered to Him; are you willing? Those who were willing were used by God, and it not only changed their lives, it changed the world around them.
Each Wednesday, you will receive a scripture to read, a series of reflection questions, and a link to a worship song. Take time to read or listen to the scripture and note any key points that resonate with you. This is often how God speaks to us, so pay close attention and listen for those moments that make you feel comforted, convicted, humbled, or encouraged. The reflection questions will guide you into a time of thinking about how and why it is important to seek God’s presence in our lives. Finally, there will be a link to a YouTube video with worship music. This is supplied to create time to pray and seek God. You can use your own music or sit in silence, but be sure to close your time by asking God to draw near to you.
Psalm 6 (Easy English Bible)
Lord, when you are angry,
please do not punish me.
I do not feel strong, Lord,
so please be kind to me.
Lord, please make me well again.
Even my bones are shaking.
I am very frightened.
Lord, when will you do something to help me?
Lord, turn back to me. Give me back my life.
Make me safe because of your faithful love.
If I die, I will no longer remember you.
Nobody can praise you in their grave!
I am crying so much that I have no more strength.
My bed becomes wet because I weep all night.
My tears run into my pillow.
I am so sad that my eyes do not see well any more.
They are becoming weak because of all my enemies.
Go away from me, you people who do wicked things!
Now the Lord has heard me when I weep.
I asked the Lord to be kind and to help me.
Now he has answered me!
All my enemies will become ashamed!
They will go away from me in fear!
Shame will suddenly come to them!
Reflection
If you journal, consider writing down this psalm so you can further explore how it applies to your life. Or simply write out the words on a piece of paper so you can read it periodically as you go through your week.
Have you ever felt the way David feels in the beginning of Psalm 6, like God has abandoned you? Can you think of a time in your life when your whole being cried out to God because, in that moment, you could not feel His presence? Does it encourage you to know that many of God’s most faithful followers sometimes struggled to feel God near?
Just like David, did you finally break through in prayer, to the realization that God was with you, had never left you, and will never leave you, as long as you profess your need for Him? As you listen to the worship song below, ask God to joyfully overwhelm you with His presence!

Surely this is how David felt when he once again sensed God’s presence!
