The Principle of “And”
Sundays at Tree Church Daily are a day to prepare our hearts for what He wants to do through corporate worship. We need the Spirit to lead us and show us what He is doing currently, and what He wants to do in us. This involves praying and asking Him to allow us to be aware of His activity in our lives.
If you are new to prayer and still trying to understand how God speaks to us, pray the prayer below, anticipating that God will meet you where you are.
Let’s pray…
Father,
I need You to show me what You are doing in me today. You have promised to lead me, guide me, and care about my needs. I know You are already present with me, so open my ears to hear You and my eyes to see You, and soften my heart to receive what You say. Amen.
This week, we will be exploring the idea that we are both spiritual and physical beings, and what God calls us to do will require the spiritual and the physical. Many want to relegate God’s calling and work to just getting things done. But when we operate only in the physical, we only work within our limitations. Others want to relegate God’s work to just the spiritual, spending time in quiet prayer but never actually doing anything. Nehemiah will show us that it is not either-or, but both-and. Accomplishing what God calls us to do will require a deep dependence on Him, which we tap into through the regular practice of spiritual things like prayer and worship. But it will also require us to be disciplined to get to work and do the physical things that God will strengthen us to do.
As you start to think about this idea, take 4-5 minutes to answer these questions in your mind, or feel free to write them in a journal.
Which direction do you tend to focus on, the spiritual or the physical?
Have you already felt God calling you to something that challenges you? Think through that and talk to God about it today.
Close your time today talking with God about your thoughts. You can simply start by talking to Him, or you can use the following prompts to help you get started. Feel free to take as much time as you need.
God, I struggle to pray because…
God, I am afraid to do what you are asking because…
Stay in this posture of talking and listening to God. As you go to your time of worship and teaching at church today, ask God to speak to you!
