Following Jesus
We are purposed to set aside Sundays at the Tree Church Daily as a special time to prepare our hearts and minds for worship, prayer, and community. It is a day to devote to God, and to learn more about what He wants for our lives. This involves praying and asking the Holy Spirit to speak His truth to us.
Begin your day by seeking His presence and asking God what He has for you today. If you are new to prayer and need some help getting started, then pray along with the opening prayer below.
Let’s pray…
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your love and grace and for all You have done for me. Help me understand what You have for me today. Lord, more than anything, I want a closer walk with You. I desire to feel Your presence in my life, and I want to do Your will. Please show me the way. Amen.
Today we are starting a new series, Following Jesus. This week we will look at what it truly means to be a disciple of Christ. There is a vast difference between being a Christian and being a disciple. We will learn that being a disciple does not allow for selective obedience; we must strive to follow and obey all the teachings and examples set by Jesus.
As you think about this, take a few moments to consider the following questions. You can write out your thoughts or just spend some time thinking through them.
Do you see the difference between being a Christian and being a disciple?
Have you ever caught yourself being a “Cafeteria Christian”, picking and choosing how and when you are obedient to Christ’s calling?
As we close our time together, continue talking with God about what you are feeling. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand what it means to be a disciple. You can start your prayer by simply sharing your feelings with God, or feel free to use the following prompts to help you get started. Don’t rush this process; take as much time as you need.
Father, I love You and I want to be obedient…
Holy Spirit, please guide me to a fuller understanding of what it means to be a disciple…
At church, and throughout your day, continue to seek God. Let the Holy Spirit work in you as we join together for a time of worship and teaching.
