The Helmet of Salvation

Today, let's prepare our hearts for what God wants to do through our time in corporate worship. We need the Holy Spirit to lead us and show us what He is doing currently and what He wants to do in us. This involves praying and asking Him to make us aware of His activity in our lives.

If you're new to prayer and still trying to understand how God speaks to us, pray the prayer below, expecting that God will meet you where you are.

Let’s pray…

Father,
It is not often I think of myself as needing rescued. There are many times that my life feels safe and in control. But then there are times when I know the exact opposite to be true. I sense the depth of my need, and know that I am helpless. So please always remind me of my desperate need for You. Teach me to trust You and have faith that You are there to rescue me. Amen.

For many of us, “salvation” was a moment in time. We talk regularly about when we were “saved.” But the biblical idea of salvation is much richer than a moment in time when forgiveness was applied to our lives. It is not less than this, but it is so much more, and wearing the Helmet of Salvation involves our whole lives and our eternity. God’s heart to save is the sustaining force of our lives. As we explore how salvation protects us in the spiritual battles we face, ask God to open your heart and mind to your need for His rescue and protection.

As you start to think about this idea, take 4-5 minutes to answer these questions in your mind or feel free to write them in a journal:

Which season do you find yourself in right now, a season of need? Or a season of self-reliance?

How do you need God to rescue you right now?

Close your time today by talking with God about your thoughts here. Take time to pray through the following prompts. Feel free to take as much time as you need.

God, show me Your power and provision. I need You to move in…

God, show me where I need rescuing…

Stay in this posture of talking and listening to God. As you go to your time of worship and teaching at church today, ask God to speak to you!
