What We Shall Be
As believers, we have a new identity in Christ. We are children of God. This comes with both blessings and challenges. Let’s look into both sides of what our identity holds today.
Before we get into our topic, let’s pray.
Holy Father, I want to take this time to invite Your Spirit into this moment with me. I pray that You would increase my faith and understanding of salvation. Teach me what it means to be Your child and how to walk in the light of Your salvation. May I live righteously, becoming like You in every area of my life, in the way that most glorifies You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
1 John 3:2 (NLT)
2 Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but He has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He really is.
Friends, at times it can be challenging to fight the good fight continuously. In hard times, it can seem like I am one step away from growing weary in doing good. Do you ever feel too discouraged or weary to be an encouragement to others?
Today’s verse encourages and emphasizes that if we do not grow weary, but persevere and abide in Christ, one day we will get to see who He created us to be! We will see fully and completely how like Him we are, if we choose to follow Him each day and obey His word. The blessing in this verse is realizing that we are already God’s children. Rejoice in that truth today!
While we are rejoicing, let’s remember that being a child of God is not to be taken lightly, but to be stewarded well. We need to be reminded that it comes with responsibility. What is one area God is challenging you in that will lead you to becoming more like Christ?
One of our responsibilities as His children is to walk wholeheartedly in who He has called us to be. This means being obedient and walking in our salvation today, so we can later see it come to fruition and marvel in the fullness of God. We have hope in the fact that one day we will be like Him. This is something we can cling to when we find it hard to keep submitting. Our obedience and steps of faith will be rewarded, when one day we become complete in Him.
As we close today, go to God in prayer. Use the following prompts if you need help getting started.
Pray that you will be relentless in the pursuit of God’s will for your life.
Pray for steadfastness and the perseverance to hold fast to God’s word in the midst of troubling times.
Go into your day with confidence in your identity as a child of God. Let this identity influence how you interact in relationship with God and the world around you.
