Praying Together
When we come together in the name of Jesus, He promises to be right there with us! For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them. (Matthew 18:20)
Let’s invite Him here now, as we get started.
Father, there is nothing better in this world than being in Your presence. Thank You for this community, where I can be with fellow believers in praise and worship and feel You right there with us. I invite You into this time with me today; that Your Holy Spirit overwhelms my soul. Amen.
Acts 2:42-47 (NLT)
42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.
43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshipped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity – 47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
When I read this scripture passage, I get a glimpse of heaven. We were built for community, to be together, to help one another and to pray together. While there is so much power in our private prayers, there is something so special and powerful about coming together and praying with our fellow believers. This is what our early church modeled for us. I know when I’m worshiping in church on Sunday morning or in my small group, I truly feel the Spirit moving in big ways. How often do you pray with others?
There is something so uplifting about praying together with a group of people. When I was in the Dominican Republic on a mission trip, we went into a woman’s home and prayed over her mother, each taking turns pouring into her. Every one of us, covered in chills and with tears in our eyes, felt the Spirit moving in that room. It was incredible! Something so special happened there when we came together and lifted her up to Jesus – there was power when we prayed together!
Do you see the importance of praying together with others? Do you understand the importance of being a part of a community of believers?
Having a community of like-minded followers of Jesus is vital! Taking our cares to Him, together, is a huge step of faith. He wants His children to worship Him as a family! As you pray today, feel free to use these prompts to help you get started.
Jesus, thank You for community...
Lord, thank You for a church that believes in praying together and for showing up when we gather in Your name…
I hope you find the courage to pray with others today. Go out and be the church as depicted in the Book of Acts - be bold enough to lift one another up in prayer!
