Pain Becomes Purpose
Take 2-3 minutes to quiet yourself and ask God to speak to you today through your devotional time.
Reading: Romans 8:28, Genesis 50:20
Be sure to highlight or note anything that stands out to you while you read.
After reading the passage, take the next 5-10 minutes and spend time reflecting on what you read. You can write these things down in a journal or record them in your phone. Be attentive to both what you highlighted in the passage and what is going on in your life.
What Joseph endured felt like devastation, but God was quietly weaving redemption through it all. Joseph’s obedience protected Mary, fulfilled prophecy, and placed Jesus within the lineage that would change the world. Pain that once felt pointless became purposeful. God does not cause our suffering, but He never wastes it. He redeems it—turning wounds into wisdom, trials into testimony, and sorrow into hope for others. The pain you’ve walked through may one day become the very bridge God uses to reach someone else. Your story matters. Your obedience matters. What feels broken today may be the raw material God is using for redemption tomorrow. Trust that your pain is not the end of the story—it’s part of a greater purpose still unfolding.
How might God want to use my story—including my pain—for His glory and someone else’s good?
Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…

Now, take 10 minutes to seek God in prayer…
- Begin your time in prayer by taking 1-3 minutes to sit in silence (You can take longer if you sense the Spirit already beginning to speak to you).
- Pray through the things you sensed God speaking to you through the Scriptures or pray the following prayer: God, I trust You with my story. Use even my pain for Your purposes and give me courage to share what You have done.
- Close by taking 5 minutes to sit in silence, asking God if there is anything else He wants to speak to you today.
Take Action:
- Reflect on one hardship God has already redeemed in your life and thank Him for it.
- Pray for wisdom to know when and how to share your story to encourage someone else.
