Set Apart to Depend on Christ
As you prepare yourself for time with God today, let’s seek the Spirit in anticipation for how He wants to lead us:
Holy Spirit, thank You for always being around me in this world, but more so, thank You for being in me. Thank You for being present in my life. Would You please speak to me today? I need You! I need You to turn my thoughts and my ways towards Jesus. Help me to remember Him today and stir a heart of worship within me for all that He has done for me! Amen.
1 Peter 2:4-6 (NLT)
You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.
And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. As the Scriptures say,
“I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem,
chosen for great honor,
and anyone who trusts in him
will never be disgraced.”
In our purposed pursuit of following Jesus, it is easy to get lost in the effort that is required of us. We get lost in thinking about our performance and forget that it was Jesus who made the way for us and empowers us in our transformation. Can you think of a time when you felt that no matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t seem to live up to the example we see in Jesus? Does that leave you feeling overwhelmed?
Peter reminds us today that Jesus is the cornerstone. He is the foundation. He is the key component in our calling to be set apart and transformed. We rely on Him for every part of it. What is something that you find frustrating about yourself in your discipleship journey?
What would it look like to surrender that to Jesus and fully depend on Him today?
Now I would like you to take some time and put on your favorite worship songs from YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Music, and spend time in prayer and worship. Here are some prompts to get you started:
Jesus, I worship You for rescuing me.
Jesus, I surrender all to You. Help me to trust that You can help me change.
Jesus, help me to trust You with…
